One, two, three, four...

Several months ago one of my coworkers brought her counted cross stitch project to work and was working on it during her lunch break. It's a very cool picture of two soldiers and a flag that she's doing for her husband. I was watching her and thinking I'd like to try. I remember starting one when I was younger (probably about 9 or 10) and liking it. My roommate does counted cross stitch but I kept forgetting to ask her to teach me. Finally this week I remembered. I was looking around online for patterns and ideas and found this pattern:

Can I just say I love Jan Brett?

Anyway, we went to two different fabric/craft stores last night looking for a pattern that I liked and found NOTHING. Diana tells me CSS is a dying craft, which I find sad. JoAnn.com has a ton of patterns I like, so if I really get into this and end up enjoying it I might get a couple. I'd love to do one for my mom and maybe someday each of my grandma's (if you guys are reading this, pretend you don't know what I'm talking about).

Since we didn't find anything I liked we went ahead and bought the thread for this hedgie. Diana says he'll be a little bit hard because it has 1/4 and 3/4 stitches (I have no idea what that means but she's teaching me tomorrow).

We set everything up and got started last night and while Diana was threading the needle Nikita comes running over and pounces on the thread. Oops! I always forget about having such a playful cat because the only cats I've had have been aloof and boring. She got shut in my bedroom for a short while so we could get started and then I let her out and gave her her OWN string to play with. lol

Since I didn't start until 8:30 at night I didn't get very far, but I'm anxious to take it on our trip this week. The only thing I forgot to buy last night was a little bag to keep everything in.

I can see that we're going to be having a lot of cross stitch movie nights in the near future!
