Paragraphs

Steve and I went to see The Time Traveler's Wife last night. SO GOOD! I am so glad I went to see it in the theater (although it's not one of those movies that you HAVE to see in theaters). If they had followed the book super closely it would have been a 6 hour movie. But I think they did a stand-up job and covered all of the important and relative things. (Like, they left out the part about Clare's mom being a little crazy but it turned out it didn't matter in the grand scheme of the movie.) I did catch myself leaning over to Steve several times and adding little tidbits of information to help him follow better, but I don't think they were CRUCIAL to him understanding the movie. They were just helpful in really getting into it. =) I totally cried. It's a tear jerker. But also definitely a movie I'm going to own. It was very well done.

I haven't posted much lately because life is sort of kicking my butt right now. There's just a lot going on and I don't want every post to be a rant or for my blog to become a big complaining fest. It IS my journal so I have to post some of that stuff, but I also don't want to drive any of you off with negativity.

There is a bunch of stuff going on in my church right now and it's an emotional rollercoaster. I probably won't share ANY more than that though. My church family is my FAMILY and I am very close with a lot of people there. It's rough to be a part of a family going through struggles. And emotionally exhausting.

Steve is also going through a lot of life STUFF right now so I'm standing by him and supporting him with that. Even the "little" things like having jury duty, Jordan starting second grade, work stress and talking about possibly having back surgery are overwhelming when they all happen in the same week. (And I call those things "little" because they compare to much bigger things like putting his house on the market.)

I can't remember if I posted about his back and the possible surgery... Steve finally switched doctors and the new guy took him off several pointless medications he was on that weren't doing anything (except creating side effects) and put him on just one or two things to help control the pain. He was referred to a surgeon and I was able to join him at that appointment yesterday. The surgeon said that it seems like the pain in Steve's back has been getting better over the last few weeks, which is true. The medication changes have helped and he's also been on Weight Watchers and has already lost between 15 and 20 pounds which I think is helping immensely. (Not to mention, he looks great!) What the doctor said was that we should play the "wait and see" game for a little while. If the pain continues to get better and Steve can keep it around 2/10 and enjoy life, he should hold off on the surgery. However, if the pain stays that low for a couple of weeks and then comes back up to a 6/10 or 7/10 and Steve isn't able to get it under control again, he should opt to have the surgery. The doctor also said that the surgery would be worth it in the long run if the other alternative is for Steve to give up things he loves (like golfing, etc.). So we're praying the pain will stay down! Steve is rather terrified of the idea of surgery.

I received a call from Dorothy's Home Health nurse this afternoon that they will be switching her to Hospice care next week. More changes... Although overall I feel like she's doing pretty well right now.

This weekend holds a mother/daughter craft night, hanging out with Jordan and Blu on Saturday, going to a bachelorette party that evening, a family day on Sunday and no work on Monday! I think we're spending Monday at the mall in Eugene, getting Jordan's hair cut (pictures to come for sure - wait until you see what he wants done to it) and doing some last minute school clothes shopping!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - my life is never lacking in excitement and change. =)
