I have not been able to get warm since 7:15 this morning.
And I'll tell you why.
One wall of our office is floor to ceiling windows. My desk is opposite the windows so I'm not anywhere near them. Today I sat right next to them.
And I'll tell you why.
Eve is on vacation this week. Stephanie usually does discharges but Friday is her day off. Plus, she has the flu and was also out Wednesday and Thursday. Shirley is the other discharge clerk (discharges is processing the charts of all the patients who were discharged the previous day) but she was filling in for Eve. Anyway, to sum it all up, I did discharges today.
NOW, this is a process that I shadowed for three days over a month ago. I've never done it alone. I asked a LOT of questions. Thankfully, I also took a lot of notes. So when my supervisor (who was also out yesterday and today) layed out job duties for the week, I only had a minor moment of panic.
This morning when I got to work I had another few minutes of panic but I decided, you know, it's only discharges. Stephanie and I talked last night about some crap going on in the office and how we've decided to just own our jobs and be the bigger person(s). So today I owned discharges.
The process is supposed to be done by 11:30, but that's almost never realistic. A day can run anywhere from 20 or 50 discharges, depending on how high the census is. Today's there were 29 and I had them all on the back counter by the time I went to lunch at noon! Woot!
I was super proud of myself over the whole thing. Plus, three people this week have told me that I'm very professional, one person told me that my customer service skills have really improved since I started there (not that they were bad, I was just shy) and both my supervisor and my manager praised me this week for taking extra initiative.
AND, since Eve is on vacation Stephanie will be alone on Sunday. But, since she has the flu, I felt bad. So I asked my manager today if it would be okay if I was on-call for her on Sunday (because I have to get overtime approved) and he asked me to work a whole shift. SO, I get overtime and weekend pay but it makes for a 6 day work week.
Anyway, Steve just came by and wants to watch a movie, so I suppose I ought to indulge him.
Have I mentioned that I love my job?
