I'm fascinated by Nadya Suleman. I have very mixed feelings about her whole story. I believe that children are a blessing and I believe that her octuplets all surviving is nothing short of a miracle. But I also think that she was very irresponsible to have six children, some of them disabled, and to try for more children, being the single, unemployed mother that she is. I'd have to say I'm appalled at the doctor that she used, implanting all of those embryos. Anyway, if you have the same fascination that I do, click here to see how she fired her nurses. News in my own life:

I took today off work. Last night I had my first meltdown as a caregiver (although I don't think Dorothy knows it happened). The one aspect of this job that I can honestly say that I hate is Dorothy's bipap machine that she uses at night. The masks don't fit quite right and it's uncomfortable for her. Every night we fight with it to make it "acceptable" for the night. Last night I had just barely fallen asleep and she called for me to come in and adjust it. The most frustrating part is that once the mask is on, she can't talk. So I'm basically going blind on what she wants me to do. I finally asked her if she wanted me to switch the mask out and she said yes. Then the fittings wouldn't go together. I was getting so frustrated with the dumb thing. Once I got it all together and put the mask over her head I had to adjust all the straps and settings (go figure since everything was adjusted just fine two nights ago!). At the end of the whole ordeal I walked back into my bedroom and burst into tears.

Dorothy has an appointment with her sleep doctor this afternoon and hopefully they will come up with a better fit for the mask and adjust the machine so she isn't overwhelmed with blasts of air. One can hope and pray.


I've had a lot of stomach aches lately which is something that I've always struggled with. For awhile I was barely getting them at all but the last few weeks they've started to come back. So today when I woke up with one I called work and said I was staying home. I'm taking a sick day/mental health day. After being chewed out at work yesterday for a bunch of things that were not my fault (by various people in bad moods, most of them outside my department)I just needed a day. So I'm taking a day.

This concludes the first of many Tuesday Newsdays. =)

Kids, clothes and porch deco

Yesterday I babysat for a woman that I (sort of) work with. Her kids are so much fun. Their dad works graveyard and sleeps during the day so I had them at my place. We got out the box of Play-Doh and they had the time of their lives. My friend's daughter usually plays with the dough but not the accessories but these guys tried EVERYTHING out and there is some cool stuff in there! I got the whole box for free and I've never really looked through it so yesterday I went through all the dough and threw out the crusty stuff. I have about 4 containers of orange and pink and zero blue. lol

Shayla fed lunch to the frog and the "lion." Hedgehog is a hard word. =)


Rhonen spent a good portion of time in the "teeth making business" as you can hear him talking about.



Today I spent some time shopping with a friend (ex roommate) and got some REALLY cute stuff that I'm excited to wear to work. The whole spree was inspired by needing some professional summer clothes and I found some! The trip included a pair of shoes that I can wear without socks but that are close-toed (hard to find in a summer shoe). Dress codes make it tricky to find stuff sometimes. Here's my haul:

I stopped at the store for a couple of plants for my porch because it was looking bare. I also transplanted a house plant (my only one) so it looks cheery inside too! Doesn't my front door look happy??

The weekend is always too short. I'm babysitting several times this week so that's fun. Off to decide which cute outfit to wear to work and make tomorrow's lunch!

PORTLAND!

I got to go stay with Stacy!! I seriously looked forward to this weekend for weeks. =) I was a little bit nervous about FINDING her place but she gives absolutely awesome directions and I had no trouble whatsoever (same for the return trip). When we stepped onto her floor it smelled SO good because she was making curry for dinner! I had never had it before and I'm making it for my family tomorrow.

After dinner we walked several blocks up the street to a place called Bartini. They had a menu of over 100 martinis and it was amazing! It was a tiny, dark little place with soft lighting and we decided that we would give it a good review. Here's Stacy sipping on my Peach Bliss while holding her Mint Mojitotini.

Friday night we went to bed at a somewhat decent time and then talked for a good hour, which we haven't done in YEARS. We got up in the morning and took the street car down to the Pearl and walked and walked and walked and took pictures and then more pictures. (I think we found out it was 88 that day but it sure seemed hotter!)

I took this picture because I think Shoefly is just a really cool name for a shoe store.

We took lots of pictures of this old loading dock because it was so artsy! As we walked around I seriously kept thinking, "Wow, Jonathan and Carrie would LOVE to take pictures here!"

I always end up in the children's section and bought 2 books for Jordan and one for myself (not in the children's section).

We stopped at a secondhand store and I bought a super cute skirt and Stacy could NOT resist trying on these boots. Madre would have been proud.

Saturday Market! This guy was really good at playing the buckets. I could have sat and listened to him for quite some time (if there had been shade).

These bicycle cart things were all over. This guy in particular reminded me of a friend of ours. Even the hat.



This group was really cool! They were singing "Walking on Broken Glass" when we walked up and they had choreographed a whole dance to go along with it. The girl in the white skirt was the lead singer and the girl on the far right in the purple was beatboxing.

Then we walked in to the beer garden area and these people were playing. I could have sat and listened to them for a long time. Heck, I would have spent all DAY at the Saturday Market if I could have!



I was hoping to see a person pretending to be a statue but we never did. Instead, we took a picture with this lovely pirate.

By that point we were hungry and HOT so we stopped at Mio Gelato and had DELICIOUS gelato for lunch. (When I got home the vote for dinner was banana splits.)

There were so many times that I laughed out loud at random things I saw. This was one of them.
I can't wait to go again! I had such a great time with Stacy and I was thrilled to finally get to walk around downtown Portland and look at everything. There are so many sights and smells and sounds... I would love to spend several days there and I still wouldn't see everything I wanted to.

Cats and ghosts and underwear, oh my!

When Harvest came over last weekend my cat decided Kylin's carseat made the best bed ever. We had to throw a blanket over it because there was absolutely no keeping her out of it.


Then when I was cleaning out my sock drawer she was hunting around in the open space in the dresser where the drawer had been and came out all covered in wood dust. She looked like she'd been snowed on and was walking around the house sneezing for about 20 minutes. She crawled out of the dresser, walked over to the drawer, stepped inside and sniffed it and plopped right down. Uh, 'scuse me cat, I'm workin' here!

The other night Jordan and I tried to make slime. The recipe we used was similar to the one Stacy and I used as kids, but it didn't turn out. The ingredients were the same, but the instructions were different so I'll have to dig out my old recipe again. Here he is with our attempted slime...

Instead of slime, we made salt dough ghosts. When I walked in the door he was watching a movie on the bed in his underwear. I asked him if he wanted to put some clothes on before we started and he said, "Nope! I like making ghosts in my underwear!" Made it really easy to throw him in the tub when we were done. =)

Steve's dad came in while we were shaping the dough and asked Jordan if he could have some. Jordan happily handed him a ball, probably thinking he was going to make something. As he raised it to his mouth I said, "Don't eat it! It's salt and flour!" He looked at me like, "Why would you make dough like that?" Hey, it's ghost dough. =)

Here is our family of ghosts! (Complete with a "dead ghost" though I'm not sure what a dead ghost is.)

The King

Last night Steve and Jordan and I picked up Harvest and Jazmyn and we all went to Pizza King for Karaoke Night. This is Jordan loving his new car seat and my new car where he has his own window:
Steve's mom sings karaoke with another guy named Steve and he likes to sing Little Red Riding Hood with Jordan as the wolf. Below is a video of this.
